ROLES Start &amp; Finish Line Team.The Start/Finish Line is the heartbeat of the event where excitement begins and celebrations end. Registration can be a busy and stressful time for runners, so it’s up to us to ensure everything runs smoothly. This team plays a vital role in creating a welcoming environment, guiding runners through their final steps and ensuring the event closes with the same professionalism and energy it began with. Key responsibilities include:<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Assisting with parking, tracker allocation, bib number collection and a variety of other essential tasks that help participants feel supported and ready to race.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Assist with awards ceremonies, food service areas and general marshalling</li></ul> &nbsp;Aid Station Crewing (ASC)The ASC are more than just helpers they are the bloodline of the event. They operate under the guidance of an Aid Station Captain.We require a minimum of four ASC members at every station throughout the event. Key Responsibilities<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Set-up: Build temporary shelters or prepare indoor halls to create a welcoming space.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Runner Support: Assist participants with refilling bottles and hydration packs.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Food Service: Lay out and maintain food and beverages for runners to help themselves.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Atmosphere: Provide boundless enthusiasm, encouragement and care. Lifting the spirits of runners who may be tired, sore or in need of a morale boost.</li></ul>&nbsp;Your energy and encouragement can make the difference between a runner giving up or pushing through to the finish Control Room &amp; Admin TeamThe Control Room is the nerve centre of the event. You’ll play a vital role in keeping communication clear, calm, accurate and responsive across the course helping the team stay connected and the event running smoothly.Key responsibilities include:<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Radio Operations: Monitor event radio channels, relay messages across checkpoints, logistics and the event director. Keep a clear log of communications.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Admin Support: Record runner progress, track volunteer shifts and log incidents or updates as they occur.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Logistics Coordination: Assist with directing vehicle movements, equipment drops and Do Not Finish (DNF) pickups.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">·Volunteer Liaison: Help manage sign‑in/out, meal distribution, and provide support to the wider team.</li></ul> If you have relevant experience or feel confident taking on one of these roles, we’d love to hear from you. Tell us about your skills in your email application -whether that’s administration, logistics, radio communications or event support. Your experience helps us place you where you can make the biggest impact and feel comfortable. Logistics Team.The Logistics Team is the backbone of the event.&nbsp;You’ll ensure people, equipment and supplies get to where they need to be. This is a hands-on role for organised, practical people who enjoy being part of the action and making things happen behind the scenes. Key responsibilities include:<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Equipment Transport: Move event equipment and supplies between checkpoints and aid stations.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteer Support: Drop off and collect volunteers at their designated locations.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Runner Assistance: Pick up participants who are unable to finish and ensure they are safely returned to the event base.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">On‑Call Duties: Respond to logistical needs as they arise, keeping the event running smoothly.</li></ul> Without the Logistics Team the event simply couldn’t function. You will be the link that keeps aid stations stocked, volunteers supported and runners cared for. It’s a role that combines responsibility with camaraderie and gives you a front‑row seat to the incredible effort of everyone involved.&nbsp;This role is ideal for people who like variety, problem‑solving and being trusted with important tasks that make the whole event possible.&nbsp; Course SweepersOur unsung heroes who follow the runners, remove course markings, collect litter and leave the trail exactly as we found it. Along the way you’ll encourage those digging deep to reach the finish line whilst experiencing the route at a gentler pace.If you enjoy being outdoors and want to play a vital role while keeping things light-hearted, this could be the perfect role for you.

Your Journey

&nbsp;All volunteers are an essential part of the event team, and to ensure consistency and safety, volunteers are bound by the same Race Rules as competitors, along with the following additional points&nbsp;📋 Volunteer Rules (Additional to Competitor Race Rules). General Terms<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteers: Nothing in this agreement should be interpreted as an offer of employment, paid work, or a contract for services. There is no obligation on you to assist Crystal Outdoor Events Ltd, nor any obligation on Crystal Events Ltd to provide volunteering opportunities.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Contractors: Contractors will have received a separate written agreement or contract of services from the organiser. Contractors are bound by the terms outlined in that agreement.</li></ul>. Good Conduct<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteers and Contractors must uphold the good name and reputation of the Event and Organiser.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">At the sole discretion of the Organiser, anyone deemed to have behaved inappropriately will be required to leave immediately. In such cases, Volunteers will lose entitlement to travel expenses, event credits, and any other benefits, and must return all clothing/equipment issued.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">No smoking is permitted on the Event site. Smokers must be at least 100m away from others.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Animals: Dogs or other animals are not permitted unless express permission is granted by the Race Director .</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Alcohol: May only be consumed when ‘off duty’, with no further responsibilities that day.</li></ul>. Confidentiality<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteers and Contractors may come into possession of sensitive or copyrighted information. This must be kept strictly confidential and not disclosed to any third party.</li></ul>. Benefits<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteers receive no financial remuneration.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Agreed expenses (e.g. travel) will be reimbursed upon production of receipts.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Benefits provided include:</li><li class="ql-align-justify ql-indent-1">Main meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner)</li><li class="ql-align-justify ql-indent-1">Event uniform and merchandise (when supplied)</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Uniforms should be worn when supplied, and any conflicting brand logos must be avoided.</li></ul>&nbsp;. Travel &amp; Accommodation Expenses<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Travel expenses (parking, mileage for event duties) will be reimbursed after the Event with proof of payment.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Accommodation costs are not covered.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">In the event of cancellation, Crystal Outdoor Events Ltd is not liable for costs incurred (travel, accommodation, equipment, etc.).</li><li class="ql-align-justify">The Organiser reserves the right to cancel, postpone, or amend the Event due to circumstances beyond its control (e.g. severe weather, natural disasters, terrorism, pandemics, local authority restrictions).</li></ul>. Event Credits<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Credits may be used towards future event entry or transferred to another runner (by emailing Crystal Events).</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Credits are not exchangeable for cash.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Credits must meet race rule criteria and runner declaration requirements.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Once a credit is used to enter an Event, it is subject to the same Terms &amp; Conditions as a paid entry. Withdrawal from the Event may result in loss of credit.</li></ul>Volunteers are not employees or workers and are not entitled to wages or the National Minimum Wage. Any benefits offered, such as meals, uniforms, training or discretionary discounts on future event entry Credits, are provided solely as a thank‑you gesture for volunteering.<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">&nbsp;&nbsp;Crystal Outdoor Events Ltd may, at its discretion, offer volunteers a reduced entry fee (for example, up to 75% off) for a future event. This discount: is not</li></ul>contractual and is not guaranteed.<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Is offered only at the discretion of the Organiser and may be withdrawn or amended at any time.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Does not create any entitlement to wages, employment rights, or worker status.</li></ul>Risk &amp; Responsibility<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteering at the Event is a potentially hazardous activity. Risks include serious injury, disablement, or death.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteers and Contractors are responsible for their own actions, safety, and any injury sustained.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">By volunteering, you confirm you are fit, healthy, and capable of performing the duties expected.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteering is undertaken with full knowledge of the challenges presented by the Event.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Crystal Outdoor Events Ltd will take all reasonably practicable steps to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of volunteers during the event.</li></ul>&nbsp;. Safety<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">The Organiser will take reasonable steps to ensure safety.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteers must immediately inform the Organiser if asked to perform a task they feel unsafe, untrained for, or unsuitable for.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteers are responsible for assessing their own suitability for tasks and must decline duties that could jeopardise safety.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">PPE will be provided for each role. Volunteers must also bring their own waterproof jacket, headgear, and suitable footwear.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteers should dress appropriately for weather conditions.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">The Organiser accepts no responsibility for loss, theft, or damage to personal clothing/equipment.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Insurance: Volunteers are covered under the event’s public liability insurance.</li></ul>. Media &amp; UAVs<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Photography, film, video, and sound recordings may be taken during the Event. Volunteers consent to being included and waive all rights to such media.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">The Organiser has full authority to use this media worldwide, in perpetuity.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Volunteers must follow all safety instructions when UAVs (drones) are in use.</li></ul>. Data Protection<ul><li class="ql-align-justify">Personal data provided by volunteers will be stored securely and used only for event administration.</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Crystal Events Ltd will comply with UK Data Protection law (GDPR). Data will not be shared with third parties except where legally required.</li></ul>Withdrawal from Role<ul><li>If, for reasons beyond your control, you are no longer able to carry out your volunteer role for the event, we kindly ask that you give us as much notice as possible. Route Introduction﻿&nbsp;The Lakes 3000 Ultra starts at The Pencil Factory, a solid industrial landmark marking the jump from town into mountain country. From the first steps, you know it’s going to be a big day.The route heads through Borrowdale and over Stockley Bridge, the old packhorse crossing, before pushing towards Wasdale. Here, the bigger ground begins to show and the mass of Lingmell faces head on! As you drop toward Wastwater Little Hell Gate cuts into Great Gable and Spinks Rock sits overhead, not dramatic just the kind of features you notice as you move through serious fell terrain.Climbing out of Wasdale up the trod brings you to the summit of Scafell where the reality of the next descent sets in: Foxes Gully! From there, you reach Mickledore Col, one of the Lake District’s classic moments with steep drops on either side.Crossing the Central Fells the terrain eases. The Howitzer on the skyline with Helvellyn in the distance the next 3,000-foot peak.From its summit plateau, Striding Edge is never far from sight - a reminder of the mountain’s character..By Skiddaw, the final 3,000-footer, your legs will be feeling the day. Things to Do Derwent Pencil Museum Discover Keswick’s pencil-making heritage, from the discovery of graphite in the 1550s to modern manufacturing. See historic machinery and the world’s largest colouring pencil, measuring almost eight metres long. Derwentwater Explore the shores of one of the Lake District’s most iconic lakes. Walk the eight-mile perimeter trail in half a day. Don’t pass up the chance to take the 50-minute cruise on a Derwent Launch. Derwentwater has four main islands, one of which Derwent Island, has an 18th-century Italianate house. Theatre by the Lake Set beside Derwentwater, Theatre by the Lake offers a varied programme with a residentcompany of up to 14 actors, performing a repertoire of six plays from May to November. A great option for a relaxed evening after a day in the fells. Keswick Museum Discover Keswick’s quirky history, including the Musical Stones of Skiddaw, a teacup owned by Napoleon, a 600-year-old mummified cat, a mantrap for catching poachers and other unusual exhibits. Moot Hall Standing in Market Square since 1813, Moot Hall has served as a courthouse and museum and is now an exhibition space. Its steps famously mark the start of the Bob Graham Round. Keswick Town Explore the 740-year-old Saturday market, independent shops, outdoor stores, pubs and cocktail bars. There is also the Alhambra Cinema and Kong Adventure for indoor climbing, caving and family fun. Mirehouse &amp; Gardens, Bassenthwaite Explore this historic house, gardens and woodland on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, with lakeside access, wildlife, seasonal osprey viewing and a tearoom. Catbells At 451 metres, Catbells offers a rewarding three-hour circular walk with spectacular views over Derwentwater, Keswick, Borrowdale and Skiddaw. Stone Circles Visit Castlerigg, One of the UK’s earliest stone circles, dating back 4,000–5,000 years and made up of 38 standing stones. Walla Crag ﻿A short walk from Keswick leads to the 380-metre summit of Walla Crag, with stunning views across Derwentwater and the surrounding fells. The walk can be done in an afternoon or evening if you want to watch the sunset go down over the lake and its islands as well as Grasmoor and Grisedale Pike.

Receipt of payment is your agreement.By entering THE LAKES 3000 ULTRA, I confirm and agree to the following: 1.Understanding of the Challenge and RisksI understand that by entering THE LAKES 3000 ULTRA, I accept the difficulties and risks associated with the event, including its length, elevation gain, challenging terrain and potential hazards such as changing weather conditions, limited visibility, injury and self-navigation at night.2.Experience and CompetenceI confirm that I have sufficient mountain experience to safely undertake the event and that I have previously completed a similar event involving exposed terrain.3.&nbsp;Fitness and HealthI declare that I am physically fit and healthy enough to participate in the event. I understand that it is my responsibility to declare any relevant medical condition that may affect my participation.4.Physical and Mental DemandsI acknowledge the physical and mental demands of the event and confirm that I can exercise sound mountain judgement in relation to nutrition, hydration and personal safety. I can manage fatigue, digestive issues, muscle cramps and minor injuries, including blisters and cuts.5.Self-Sufficiency and EmergenciesI confirm that I am self-sufficient and capable of managing emergency situations should they arise. I agree to retire from the event if I exceed a cut-off time or if a member of the event team determines that it is unsafe for me to continue.8.&nbsp;Nutrition and HydrationI understand that Check Points and Aid Stations are provided to support my self-sufficiency. Food and drink may be available, but I remain responsible for carrying sufficient nutrition and hydration for the duration of the event.9..NavigationI understand that only parts of the course will be marked.
